Dr. Charlotte Markey, Ph.D, began studying about all things eating behavior, weight management and body image over 20 years ago. Markey is a psychology professor at Rutgers University and founder of its Health Sciences Center. Her first book, “Smart People Don’t Diet: How the Latest Science Can Help You Lose Weight Permanently” was called “possibly the best book about weight loss ever written,” by Scientific American. Her second book (co-edited with Drs. Elizabeth Daniels and Meghan Gillen), “Body Positive: Understanding and Improving Body Image in Science and Practice,” was published in the summer of 2018.

Markey has published nearly 100 book chapters and journal articles in peer-reviewed journals. She has hundreds of presentations to her name at universities across the U.S. and at national and international conferences. Markey also blogs for publications including US News and World Report and conducts seminars, talks and presentations to hundreds of people a year. Her research has garnered widespread media attention, and she has also been featured in and interviewed by numerous publications, radio shows, and television shows.

Markey completed her B.S. at Santa Clara University and her Ph.D. at University of California–Riverside.
